15 Farnborough bowlers survive prison.

Today we went to prison, all of us together;
No remission, no bail, and no crime committed ever;

No charges had been made for it was only on a hunch,
But who were we to worry? we only went for lunch.

21st September 2012

Many thanks to Vicky for once again arranging our group trip to THE CLINK
i.e. The restaurant run by the prisoners at H.M.Prison. High Down, Sutton,
for training and re-habitation. An excellent experience and a superb meal
prepared and served by the prisoners under the supervision of qualified instructors.

John Raison with Barry and Christine Lee Triumph in club Triples

Sunday 9th September was the day of the Nell Rumble Trophy, Farnborough Bowls Club’s two wood triples competition.

Eight teams entered and a draw took place to see who was in each of the two leagues; the winners of each league would then play each other in the final.

Geoff Chadd, Anne Hellier and Diane Hill won League A.  Barry Lee, Christine Lee and John Raison won League B by not dropping a point.

Barry Lee’s team got off to good start in the final by building a good lead.  Anne’s team started to pull it back and were two points down going into the last end. They were holding three until John Raison draw in for 2nd wood. Anne’s only option was to try to dislodge the opponents wood but unfortunately she was off the target and moved the wrong bowl to give Barry’s team the shot.  The final result 11 – 8 to Barry’s team.

A big thanks to all of the competitors and particularly to Martin for organising another flawless competition day.

Powder Puff event

On the afternoon of the 11th August, Rona, Amanda, Lee and Sheila went to the Powder Puff event organised by Bourne British League Bowling Club, the event was in aid of the Phyllis Tuckwell charity.   There were teams from approx. 16 bowling clubs,  many were local clubs but there were some ladies from West Wittering in Sussex.  The afternoon kicked off with the Ladybird (same as the spider) and Amanda won it and received a bottle of wine.  Well done Amanda, my bowl was no where near it, as per usual I can hear some if you say!!!  The afternoon progressed with each person picking a tile which was your team (red or blue) rink and position, some played rinks and some played triples, this meant of course that you were not always with your club members . After two rounds we had a break and had some lovely fruit punch.   There was another two rounds and then we had a fabulous cream tea, sandwiches, scones and cakes.  The members of Bourne had worked really hard.  There was a raffle as well, there were a lot of prizes, Amanda and Lee were lucky, sadly Rona and I were not!!!  All in all a brilliant afternoon and a big thanks to Amanda for driving and to Bourne for organising it.
