Sheets for first few games

Just to let all you bowlers know that the sheets for the first few friendlies are on the notice board in the club house, also the sheets for the first few Stan Hardman league games are also on the notice board, I will be assisting Brenda Brown with the Stan Hardman selection this season.

Look forward to seeing some of you on the 21st April for the green/club tidying up session and moreover the opening drive on the 22nd April.  Refreshments will be provided.

There is also a list up in the club house for the fish and chip drive on Saturday 28th April, non-bowlers are very welcome to come along to spectate and have fish and chips, cost £6 per person, cheque and order to Barry Lee please.

Wishing you all a very happy and successful outdoor season.

Well done to the Development Team

We all need to say a big thank you to the Development Team, especially Michael and Diane, for all the hard work and the enormous amount of hours they have spent over the last few months to secure the future of our Club.  Our Members have been very generous with donations and fund raising but we still need to keep going with the fund raising.  I plan to do a car boot sale on behalf of the club early October at the main car park in Farnborough Town Centre, a couple of people to help would be welcomed.  We still have a couple of N.H.W.B.A events to host so the sale of food, cakes etc. will raise funds for the club.  Also to say “goodbye” to the green, Geoff Ringrose and myself are organising a Friday/Monday Club event on Friday 9th September starting at 1pm, we will start with a picnic on the green (bring a blanket and your own food) and then we will have a fun crown green afternoon, there will be prizes! All are very welcome.

Champion of Champions

Farnborough Bowling Club is hosting the North Hants Womens Bowling Associations Champion of Champions Day on Saturday 18th June, the draw takes place at approx. 9.30 am and the matches will commence shortly afterwards.  Farnboroughs Diane Hill will be competing along with eleven other ladies who have won their Clubs Ladies Championship.   Well done Ladies, I am sure we will be witness to some superb bowling.  Spectators are very welcome, refreshments will be available to purchase.  Let’s hope the weather is kind to us.

General Update

Hi all, just thought I would do an update since the Club opened on Saturday.

A big thank you to all those who helped out Saturday, social as well as playing Members helped out and by the end of the session, the green, the surrounding areas and the Club house was looking great.

The opening drive on Sunday afternoon was well attended, the weather was just right and approx. 28 of us turned up to bowl, we also had a few spectators who enjoyed the afternoon sunshine.  The afternoon kicked off with two “spiders”, one for the ladies and one for the men. Pauline Lane won the ladies and Tony Green won the mens, well done and hope you both enjoy your Easter egg.  The proceeds will be donated to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, which is very poignant at this time and your contributions are much appreciated.

We had an excellent turn out for Monday Club, 31 people turned up, some came from other local Clubs and the U3A, again the weather was great and everyone said how they enjoyed the afternoon, there was a lot of laughter and joking going on off and on the bowls green.  Thank you to all for your support, it certainly makes it worth while, not only is it a fun afternoon it brings money into the Club.  If anyone wants to invite bowlers from other Clubs, please do so, Monday Club is open to non-members and all it will cost them is £3.10p for a fab afternoon.

Monday Club will be running on Easter Monday afternoon, let’s hope the weather stays fine.

The next bowling event is the Fish and Chip drive on the 26th April, unfortunately Anne Hellier is unwell so  I have put a sheet up so that people can start putting their names down, there are quite a few names on the sheet already and I will let us know the cost in due course.

Happy Easter and bowling of course.
