2012 Season

We are nearly ready for the 2012 season.  The green is looking the best it has for a while: thanks to all those that helped to keep it clear during the winter. The green will be open for roll ups from 15th April; the first Monday Club will be on the 16th.

The dying hedge has been removed and replaced with a very attractive timber fence (I will need to find some new aiming points as the bunches of dead hedge I used to use have gone)

Good luck to everyone who will be playing in the various National, County or District Competitions.

The league and friendly fixtures are nearly completed, it looks as if we will have a busy season with the Olympics and Farnborough Air Show happening as well. We are hosting the Essex Bowlers tour in May and looking forward to providing them with good facilities.

The website has been updated and an additional forum and members’ area created.

Good luck to all our members in their bowling.

Make a date for ‘Bring A Friend’ week

The first national ‘Bring a Friend’ event aimed primarily at outdoor bowls clubs will be held from Saturday 28th April to Monday 7th May 2012. More information will be circulated in due course but please make a note in your club’s diary as Bowls England is keen for as many of its affiliated clubs to organise an event during this period as part of the national campaign in conjunction with the Bowls Development Alliance to increase participation in our sport among all age groups.

10 Farnborough bowlers go to prison

“Today I went to prison, I really had been nailed,

There was no remission and not a chance of being bailed.

No charges had been made, for it was only on a hunch,

But who am I to worry?    I only went for lunch.”

Many thanks to Vicky for arranging our group trip to THE CLINK on 18/01/12.  This is the restaurant run by the prisoners inside HMP High Down, Sutton, for training and re-habilitation. An excellent experience for us and a superb meal prepared and served by the inmated under the supervision of qualifed instructors.  One lesson well learned   –  don’t do anything to get banged up.               John L  (lakers)

Bowls Coaches

Quote

David Jennings and myself have started our bowls coaching training at Camberley. We have completed two of the four weeks and hope to take the exam sometime in February.  We have now covered eight of the fourteen tasks we need to learn.  More after next Sunday’s lesson.
