Farnham & District Finals

The 2023 F & D Finals were held at our club with us well represented. The sun shone & the green looked great & played as it looked.

Mytchett won the Boyd shield on the Saturday defeating Tongham.

On the Sunday Sheila & Rachel fought valiantly but went down to a strong Cove team in the Ladies Pairs. Sheila made up for this by winning the mixed pairs with Michael in a game they dominated & repelled a late fightback from their Farnham opposition.

In the team games we were in 3 finals & all 3 went to virtually the last bowl before the winners were decided.

In the Mixed Triples against Mytchett we were leading for a large part of the game on one rink but losing on the other. By the last end both games were close & both rinks managed to win by 1 shot.

The Ken Britton cup looked like finding its way to Cove as they held a comfortable lead with a few ends to go but Farnborough’s never say die attitude saw us pick up a 6 on one rink & a 4 on the other to make it a nail biting finish. With a 3 shot win in one rink & a 2 shot loss on the other we won by the narrowest of margins.

The day finished with the closest of finishes in the Goolding Cup with both rinks finishing in a tie. Mytchett won the extra end on a close measure but a brave Farnborough team left the green with heads held high.

Nell Rumble 13th August

1993 was Nell Rumble’s 40th year as a member of our club. To mark the occasion we held a special day for her, for which she kindly donated a super shield.
The Two Wood Triples has been a fixture for us ever since and this year marked its 30th anniversary.
We had a super day with good bowling and every team won at least one match.

The top two teams met in a deciding game at the end of the day. With one end to go points won from league games were level and shot difference was equal. It was all on the last end with Graham Thomas, Martin Lee and Barry Lee having their best end of the game scoring 3 shots and winning the Shield.

Despite the recent heavy rain the weather stayed dry and we had some excellent matches.

The semifinals were closely contested and the final, between Barry & Martin v Rachel and Terry, was another close match.

The four losing quarterfinalists played off in a fun competition with the final, between Andrew &Alison v Cindy & Edith, going all the way to the last end of the tiebreak with Cindy and Edith winning.

Winners Barry and Martin
